Upload problems with Mac OS X Leopard

Update: Adobe has released a new version of the Flash Player that's compatible with Leopard.

Leopard is out and we are all very excited; however, due to a bug in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), the Flash-based batch uploader is currently offline. Please use the Basic Uploader or our iPhoto Uploader until Apple (or Adobe) resolves this issue.

iPhoto 08 Plugin

Our iPhoto Plugin remains one of the favorite ways for people to get their photos on BubbleShare. Today, we released the latest version of the iPhoto Plugin that is compatible with iPhoto 08 (aka iPhoto 7.1).

The previous version of the plugin is still available for download and it's compatible with most versions of iPhoto prior to 08. Both these plugins require Mac OS X Tiger (10.4). The older version of the iPhoto plugin will no longer be updated. Anyone interested in using future versions of our iPhoto plugin is encouraged to upgrade to iLife 08.

New Blog

You might have noticed that our old blog system was crashing frequently. Our previous blog software, typo, was old and not very stable, so we've decided to switch to Blogger.

Please update your RSS reader and bookmarks!

We'll be migrating the content from the old blog as soon as possible.

Thanks and Enjoy!

Upload Recovery, and more private sharing

About 10 days ago, we quietly released an enhancement to our uploading system that I thought is worth mentioning. We have a great uploading mechanism that we are really proud of (most of the time). We've heard many people complain about uploads going all the way to 100% and "getting stuck" there. If this happens again, or your browser crashes in the middle of an upload for any reason, just restart your browser, go the upload page again, and you'll see a link to recover the photos that were successfully uploaded.

We've been listening to our users asking to have more control over their sharing experience, and the result of it is two new sharing modes. Go to "Album Properties" in edit mode and you'll see two new options: "Shared Only" and "Friends Only". There is also a little help text to familiarize you with these features.

When sharing with these new modes, the person receiving the album must have (or create) a BubbleShare account. If you make an album "Friends Only" it will show up in your profile page when your friends are logged in.

"Download Album" is back online

Hey Everyone

We've finally fixed the "Download Album" feature. It's back online, and hopefully, it's going to be nicer and more scalable.

You can still download the full resolution photos of the album, but there have been some changes to the way this feature works:

* You need be logged in to download an album.
* The album archive is no longer generated on the fly, so you'll have to wait for the link to be e-mailed to you when ready.
* Album downloads are cached for 7 days unless the album is updated. The link will expire if the album changes.

Enjoy

New features, missing features, and ads

A number of users have asked us about the "Download Album" link that has gone missing. We understand that this is an important feature, and we intend to bring it back as soon as possible. The problem is that the feature was not implemented in the most efficient way possible, so it has been putting too much load on our servers. We intend to re-implement it to be more efficient.

We've been working on some features on the backend to make things faster and better. We deployed one of these features this morning, but had a small mishap this morning that might have broken the upload functionality for some people. That has been resolved and we are hoping to introduce more and more of these enhancements in the coming weeks.

As you might have noticed, we are now trying Google ads on BubbleShare (again). We tried this before, but Google ads were not giving us relevant information. This time, we are hoping the increased text content on the site might give us better results. Please be patient as we try and make sure we achieve the best level of integration possible... Also feel free to contribute to the content by tagging and captioning your albums, and photos!
